Evening With a Legend

Jeff Milanaik: On January 21, 2010, nine Developing Leaders gathered for the first in a special series of Evenings with Legends in the Commercial Real Estate Industry. Who better to kick off this series than NAIOP New Jersey President Jeff Milanaik, President of Heller Industrial Parks. The event, hosted by Membership Committee DL Co-Chair James Jones, was limited to just ten participants.  We’ll let the following comments speak for themselves:

“The program was indeed a success.  Jeff Milanaik's generosity with his time demonstrates the emphasis that the leadership places on mentoring young talent and is evidence of the value NAIOP membership has to young professionals.” Robert A. Stout, Jr., Esq., Porzio, Bromberg & Newman, P.C.

“Absolutely amazing and extremely informative!  I would recommend that every DL try to attend at least one of these sessions, as gaining insight from leaders in the industry like Jeff Milanaik and getting to know our leaders on a more personal level is an invaluable and priceless experience, especially in a small group setting.  James Jones is a pioneer for coming up with this wonderful idea, and Jeff and our other leaders at NAIOP are extremely generous and selfless in giving their time and knowledge to the DLs.” Vivek Singh, Esq., Gibbons P.C.

“A great event.  It was a unique opportunity to dialogue with the leader of one of the premier firms in our industry and in the process to get to know several other developing leaders. I would be willing to host one in the future.” Peter R. Sorge, JM Sorge, Inc., Environmental Consultants.

Ed Russo: The second 2010 event was "An Evening with Ed Russo" of Russo Development, which sold out within hours of the announcement.

George Sowa: NAIOP NJ President George Sowa (Brandywine Realty Trust) hosted the first "Evening with a Legend" of 2011 in Princeton. While our Mixers are open to non-members, "Evening With a Legend" is exclusive to NAIOP NJ DL Members.

Peter Cocoziello:
On October 13, 2011, eight DL members had the honor of joining Peter Cocoziello, President of Advance Realty Group, for dinner. "The Dinner with Mr. Cocoziello was a great opportunity to dine with a major thought leader in the industry," said DL Eddie Rivera of Sax Macy Fromm & CO. PC. "I really appreciated Mr. Cocoziello's straightforward approach. His insight on real estate and business in general is invaluable."

Rick Cureton: Nine DL Members were fortunate enough to join Rick Cureton (NAIOP NJ VP Membership & Communications/President Whitesell Construction) for dinner on July 21 in Bordentown. Evening with a Legend dinners are exclusively for NAIOP NJ DL Members and usually sell out, so watch this space and your email for upcoming events.

DL Mixers

Hoboken: Fifty 35-and-under NAIOP members and prospective members gathered at Mulligan’s in Hoboken on December 9 for our latest DL Mixer.  DL Co-Chair Brian Whitmer of Cushman & Wakefield of NJ, hosted the event.  Featured guest Greg Nalbandian of Northmarq Capital, spoke for a few minutes on the value of NAIOP membership and how the association benefits the real estate community.  For the benefit of the non-members in attendance, Whitmer discussed the many great opportunities DL members enjoy, such as the exclusive Evening with a Legend series. Membership Co-Chair Mark Hurwitz and Membership Coordinator Jason Cohen were on hand to answer questions.

Morristown:
Nearly 50 DLs and prospective DL members took over Sona Thirteen in Morristown on February 18 to network and learn more about NAIOP New Jersey. NAIOP NJ Trustee Gretchen Wilcox welcomed the members and prospects, spoke a bit about the benefits of NAIOP membership and shared her insights on the state of the industry.
For some in attendance, this was their first introduction to NAIOP.  “A friend invited me and thought it would be a good opportunity to meet some new contacts....he was right, great event,” said Ryan Barkian of Park Avenue Abstract. Brand new member Inshirah Muhammad of Lowenstein Sandler PC attended the Mixer and signed up for the DL Membership Committee shortly thereafter.
