NAIOP Scholars is a program to promote student membership, education, participation and career opportunities.  We recognize the importance of educating students...our future leaders...about our industry and welcoming them to our association.

When a student invests $50 in NAIOP New Jersey membership dues, the NAIOP Scholars Program ensures that the cost of attending events is not a barrier to participation.

With the generous support of our NAIOP Scholars Patrons, we are able to underwrite the cost of student participation at many of our programs, giving student members the benefit of our educational seminars and access to the networking opportunities that may lead to careers in our industry.  Student Members are eligible to attend selected events at no charge (a limited number of free student registrations will be made available for each eligible event).

Members who are interested in becoming NAIOP Scholars Patrons: Please contact Dan Kennedy or Ernest Landante at 732-729-9900.

Testimonials

Student Program Helps NAIOP Build a Bridge to Real Estate Industry's Future (1/19, NJBIZ)

Former Student Member Mark Russo:

"I first became involved with NAIOP New Jersey as an intern while attending graduate school at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy.  During my time with NAIOP as an intern, and later as a student member, I attended numerous education seminars and other networking events that had a profound impact on my future career path in commercial real estate.

"My experiences at NAIOP helped make an impression on a job interview.  When I was asked “Where do you think the real estate market is going?” it was easy for me to answer after listening to industry experts and key political figures at NAIOP programs.  I wowed the company’s principals with my detailed knowledge of the Panama Canal expansion and its potential impact on industrial property values near east coast ports.

"In addition to the educational opportunities provided by NAIOP, the organization offers students the chance to interact with real decision makers.  It’s one thing to learn about economic development and real estate in a classroom, but quite another to meet the decision makers and stakeholders.  The NAIOP staff and membership really care about the students and make every effort to welcome them and help them find jobs and internships.

"If you are a current student interested in real estate and related public policy, joining NAIOP is a must.  It was through NAIOP, that I transitioned from a student into a real professional in the real estate field.  I simply cannot say enough good things about this organization and its value for students."

Former Student Member Portia Henry:

"I joined NAIOP after beginning the City and Regional Planning Graduate Program at the Bloustein School at Rutgers University. I relocated to New Jersey from Virginia and was interested in an organization that would introduce me to the housing and real estate market plus provide a connection to the most influential business and political figures--I found this through my student membership with NAIOP.

"In December 2011, I was invited to attend the Transportation and Logistics Update Seminar in Elizabeth. This seminar featured remarks from a number of key transportation professionals. The information shared at this seminar piqued my interest and I was able to share valuable current trends and predictions during an interview I had the following week for a related position with the New Jersey Transportation, Logistics, and Distribution Network based at the Heldrich Center for Workforce Development. Attending this professional event provided an advantage over my competitors that led to my employment in a field outside of commercial real estate.

"I would strongly encourage other students from various fields outside of housing and real estate to join and take advantage of the networks and access to practical New Jersey issues to supplement classroom education."
